ANDREW Henderson believes York Knights delivered their strongest team performance of the season as they got off the mark in the Betfred Championship against Bradford Bulls.

Captain Liam Harris spearheaded the Knights’ outstanding 25-14 victory at the LNER Community Stadium with a brace of tries and a drop-goal in a performance that showed glimpses of just what they are capable of.

Henderson insists the club have drawn a line under a hugely disappointing opening month that left them rock bottom after defeats to Doncaster, Toulouse Olympique, Barrow Raiders and Wakefield Trinity.

And with what they will view as winnable games against Batley Bulldogs and Whitehaven on the horizon, he hopes that this weekend’s victory will now provide them with a platform to build upon.

“I think it shows the quality of people we have at our disposal and the team that we have,” Henderson enthused.

“We’re still struggling with numbers, and we were coming into the game with a lot of numbers missing and a lot of quality players missing. But we addressed it after the game last week, we can’t dwell on what’s happened, we can’t control or change the first four games.

“We’ve been massively disrupted by injury and suspensions and ideally we’d have loved to have been in a better position, got better performances and results, but the reality is that hasn’t happened. We haven’t been playing well enough and we accept that.

“I made that clear in the sheds, we drew a line there. It’s all about now the next three weeks and the next three games, there’s a real opportunity for us if we’re willing to work hard and earn those results, we’ve got a chance with the games coming up and I think we can get some results in. That’s started here against Bradford.

“We’ve come out and done a tremendous job, and I’d argue that it’s the strongest team performance I have seen from us this season.

“I have to give the team a lot of credit and I’m super proud of them that they’ve got out there and truly earned that result and the two points.”
