ADAM HINSHELWOOD credited Solihull Moors for their impressive season, but outlined his intentions for York City to play their own game in the final match of the season.

York will confirm either their safety or relegation from the Vanarama National League on Saturday, with the Minstermen aware of what needs to be done.

A draw or defeat for Boreham Wood would see York safe, with the Wood taking on 19th placed Ebbsfleet United, but if Boreham Wood do win, City would have to lose by a margin greater than three, depending on the Ebbsfleet scoreline, to suffer relegation.

Hinshelwood’s side take on a dangerous Solihull side who have already confirmed their play-off position and have reached the Isuzu FA Trophy final, with the City boss wary of their threats.

“We’ll focus on ourselves and the emphasis on the last six games, we’ve been really good and at a good level and we need to maintain that,” Hinshelwood explained.

“We don’t want to be going in and relying on other results in the last game, our work in the last month or so has been at a good level though so we shouldn’t be worried about that.

“We should be looking forward to going to Solihull who are cemented in the play-offs and have got an FA Trophy to look forward to as well, I’m friends with Andy Whing and he’s done an amazing job, he did an unreal job at Banbury and he’s taken that to Solihull.

“I’m sure he’ll want to finish his season in front of the home fans on a high, and we know we’re going to take a big crowd and a big following with us because we want to finish in the same manner and finish well.

“If we perform anyone like we have done, then we want to make sure that it is us who takes care of business.

“We don’t want to be looking over our shoulders and looking at results, we want to take care of business ourselves.

“It’s been a weird week in that sort of sense, trying to work everything out, we’ve got to perform well.

“We’ve been relatively, touch wood, solid as of late by not conceding too many and we’ve got to really build on that, our shape has been good and we’ve been a threat going the other way.

“It is definitely stuff for us to build on and work on, we want to maintain that, we’re not on our holidays and that’s been the message to the players.

“They will be similar to ourselves, they’ll want to finish the season as well and the momentum going into a play-off push and an FA Trophy final will be important to Whingy.

“We need to go into that game full of confidence, Whingy won’t let them be on their holidays either as they’ve still got a lot to play for, once you’re in the play-off mix there is always that possibility.

“Three points for them and some momentum would be massive, so both teams will be going out there to win the game.

“Andy and his staff deserve a lot of credit for the job they have done there, they’ve got some good players and some players that we definitely have to be wary of.

“We have to show the players all the threats they have got, but at the same time we want to focus on the good stuff that we’ve been doing as of late and the good work we’ve been doing.

“It has the making of being a really good game, and with the following that we’ve got coming down we have got to give a good account of ourselves.”

Hinshelwood also explained how the earlier kick-off time of 12.15pm affects City’s pre-match preparations.

Hinshelwood explained: “We travel Friday, so it doesn’t change too much. We will still be in the hotel, all it means is that rather than having breakfast and a pre-match, we’ll probably just head straight into pre-match.

“That’s the only difference, if anything you get a bit sooner to being able to enjoy a beer after the game finishes I suppose, that’s one way of looking at it!

“For a team that is travelling, when you kick-off a little bit earlier it probably helps in the morning in the hotel, when you’re thinking about the game, when it’s an early kick-off you can get it done.

“It might affect the players staying at home and their preparation might potentially change more than ours would.”

The City and Solihull boss also share a previous connection, having played together at Brighton & Hove Albion.

“I played with him at Brighton, to be honest, looking at him as a player, he was a manager’s dream,” Hinshelwood told the Press.

“He got seven, eight out of ten every week from full-back, he’d chip in with the odd goal every now and then and was a top defender as well.

“He’s a really good guy and I get on with him, it will be good to see him on Saturday.”

The City boss has also been doing some scouting as of late, with Hinshelwood travelling to Rochdale on Tuesday night to watch fellow relegation candidates Boreham Wood in midweek.

Hinshelwood said: “We went down to Rochdale and watched that, me Cam [Cameron Morrison, first-team coach] and Garry [Elphick, assistant manager].

“We sat just behind the dugouts for the night, it’s where scouts go to sit. Rochdale supporters for the night, there were a couple of techy moments for sure, so it was a weird game to watch.

“We have no control of it but a lot of our season was relying on it, it was a weird situation to be in.

“We don’t want to head into this game reliant on that, you need to know it and for the players the message will be the same.”
