York RI A have won Division 1 of the York and District TTA Winter League.

They beat beat Topspin B 10-0 to take them out of reach of second-placed defending champions Topspin A, who drew 5-5 with York RI B later in the week.

Josh Bramley and Filip Wojtkowiak were the mainstays of the RI team, with Rhys Davies playing the first half half of the season only, having left York at the start of the year.

Topspin A lost Jonny Wooldridge to injury for the whole of the second half of the season so their challenge in the second half was maintained by James Atkins and Cris Carcamo.

At the bottom University B are already relegated, while Jacob Poole’s three singles wins contributed to Wigginton A’s 5-5 draw with Clarence B. Wigginton have completed their fixtures and are five points ahead of Clarence who must beat Shiyi Ling B to avoid a relegation play-off against the Division 2 runners-up.

It’s all to play for at the top of Division 2. Only the winners of this division are guaranteed promotion, with the runners-up taking on second-bottom of Division 1 in a play-off.

Leaders York RI C narrowly beat Wigginton B 6-4 to secure at least a play-off place.

Clarence C and Shiyi Ling C, in second and fourth respectively, drew 5-5.

Shiyi Ling C, for whom with Gary Tranter was unbeaten, are the only team who can catch York RI C for the title.

Will Beedham won his three singles for third-placed Shepherds A in their 7-3 defeat of Ryedale A.

University B are already relegated. In the battle to avoid the other relegation place, York RI E completed their fixtures with a 6-4 win against York RI F (Mike Robinson maintained his good form by winning three singles) and a 5-5 draw against York RI D, for whom Adam Stone won three.

This takes them two points ahead of Wigginton C, who beat Wigginton B 6-4 despite Dylan Pottage being unbeaten for the losers.

However Wigginton C still have two matches to play to get the three points needed to avoid the drop.

In Division 3 Patrick Creedon won his three singles to help Clarence E beat Clarence D 8-2, taking them to the brink of promotion, and probably the title, with one match to play.

BT A are top, one point ahead, but have completed their fixtures.

Ryedale B, the only other contenders for promotion, beat Wigginton D 9-1, with Pat Swindell and Ilhoo Lhondghomoilhoo winning three each.

At the bottom Topspin D and York RI G are already relegated.

In Division 4 Julian Priest won his three singles for Wigginton G in their 6-4 win against BT B. They are promoted along with Wigginton F.

The F team are six points ahead of the G team so are firm favourites to take the title with one match to go.
