TADCASTER Albion secured back-to-back victories with a 1-0 win over Golcar United.

Tadcaster were still without Captain Dan McDaid, Kieran Greenway and Fatlum Ibrahimi, but welcomed a new signing from Harrogate Town with Ben Tweed on the bench.

Back in September the Brewers has just managed to take all the points in the closest of encounters but at the start of play were two points and one league place below their hosts.

On eight minutes Golcar had the first real chance of the match but Joe Wilton made an outstanding save when he foiled Alfie Dickinson. Conor Qualter read the situation perfectly to block Slater Barnes who had pounced on the loose ball.

Moments later the Taddy shot stopper was quickly off his line to deny Doyle in a one on one.

Dickinson cleared the crossbar as the hosts kept up the early pressure but on the quarter hour Albion almost took the lead, as goalkeeper Kelly missed his punch but Dan Thirkell’s conversion was ruled offside.

With Golcar just edging play Russon skied an opportunity from the edge of the box on the end of Phillip’s cross from the left flank, whilst on 28 minutes Naidole shot wide from a packed six-yard area.

Collins put in a perfect cross on 34 minutes with Olly Norman jumping highest but his header was wide of the near post.

As the interval approached Wilton made another terrific save from Bradshaw to keep the score level.

Heading into the second half, Wilton again denied Barnes’ shot from distance whilst almost immediately Doyle headed over from the edge of the six-yard line.

Doyle had another chance on the hour mark but mistimed his shot.

Having survived some intense pressure in the opening third of the second half, Taddy were starting to look dangerous on the break, helped by the introduction down the left flank by Tweed and Jordan Hines up front.

On 76 minutes this finally paid dividends as Joe Crosby seized on a poor back pass to Kelly, calmly dispatching the ball beyond the advancing keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Elliot Holmes was quickly on to bolster the Albion defence in place of Olly Norman but on 81 minutes Bradshaw had the goal at his mercy only to launch his shot from eight yards over the bar. Hines was strangely yellow carded after he was clearly pushed over.

Having protected their slender lead up to full time, The Brewers were then greeted with seven added minutes during which Barnes cleared the bar from 12 yards whilst Tweed was close to a goal in his first game for Tad when, after a run down the left flank. His low shot was a whisker away from the far corner, The final action saw Kai Phillip again clearing the woodwork from long range.

A great performance from Albion in a match, which just like the first encounter, could have gone either way. It was the first double header win this season and a great way to start the new year.

Next Saturday, January 13, Tadcaster entertain Goole AFC at the So-Trak Stadium (3pm).

Then on the following Tuesday, 16th January, its Silsden in the League Cup, re-arranged for the fourth time following the severe weather. The winner of that will host Knaresborough Town in the quarter-final on the January, 23.
