MICK O'CONNELL gave credit to his Tadcaster Albion players after picking up his first victory in charge of the Brewers.

A single goal from Dan McDaid propelled Tadcaster to the next preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup, overcoming Redcar Athletic with a 1-0 victory.

But O'Connell's side are now off-the-mark with their first win under the manager, ahead of their return to Northern Counties Eastern League premier division action next Saturday.

"I thought we played really well in phases, in the first half I thought we were in full control of the game." O'Connell enthused.

"Joe [Joe Wilton] had one save to make and it was a good one, but upon reflection of Tuesday night when we watched it back, we defended poorly but I thought we dominated the game.

"We actually played really well but it was just errors, we spoke on Thursday night about shape and what we do without the ball, and tonight we executed it and I can't ask much more of them.

"It's always good to get the monkey off of the back and to start on the front foot, and even better in the FA Cup because it's a financial gain for the football club.

"We said at the start of the year that we would like a run in either this or the FA Vase, because financially it helps the club.

"We got through it and in the last ten minutes the lads really dug in, in games like this it's not about how pretty you are but getting through the round.

"I thought the lads deserved massive credit for how they dug in in that last ten minutes.

"We made them play wide and we made them put balls into the box, and our back three won every header that came into the box.

"They won every knockdown, every second phase and they were very good today.

"They were excellent today, did a lot of nice stuff really well today so I'm really pleased with that."
