YORK City’s new striker Fraser Murdoch is hoping to kickstart his career after a dream move to Premier League Burnley fell through in the summer.

Murdoch, who turns 21 on Friday, left Crewe at the end of last season in pursuit of a contract at the top-flight Clarets.

But, despite featuring in friendlies for the Turf Moor outfit, he missed out on a deal and, instead, agreed a short-term agreement last week with the non-League Minstermen until January, making his professional debut as a substitute during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Barrow.

Murdoch’s intention is to now use this opportunity with the Minstermen as a platform to showcase his talents and he said: “I left Crewe by mutual consent in the summer and I was looking forward to seeing what I could do at Burnley.

“I played six games for them in pre-season and I was pushing for a deal but, at the last minute, it never happened. That’s football and I will see how much I can play at York and, hopefully, score some goals because, then, you never know what might happen.”

Murdoch was given a rigorous introduction to National League football by a bruising Barrow outfit but, with his 6ft 3in frame, the ex-Railwayman is confident he will adapt.

Describing himself as “a dynamic striker, who can hold up play, use both feet and have an aerial threat,” Murdoch added: “It was tough (at Barrow).

“I’m used to being the bully in the team, but they had two defenders who were 6ft 4in and 6ft 5in, so it’s a bit different to what I’m used to. It was a lot more physical, but that’s my sort of game, so I should adjust to it quite quickly.”
