ASKHAM Bryan's Parag Mohite will be the big winner at the HPH York Vale Cricket League annual awards evening next month.

The all-rounder has bagged two major trophies, topping the division two batting averages and claiming the Les Kirby Trophy for he most aggregate runs.

Mohite was a key figure in helping his side secure the second division title and a return to the top flight after a two year absence.

He averaged 61.92 with the bat in league games and amassed 805 runs in all matches. His haul included two centuries (144 against Ovington II and 101 not out against Stillingfleet).

He also notched six other half-centuries and claimed 23 wickets at an average of 15.56 as Askham amassed 411 points on their way to promotion.

Mohite’s nearest rival in terms of runs total was Westow’s Mark Earle (last year’s Les Kirby Trophy winner) who compiled 753 runs.

Earle, however, did top the division one batting averages with 61.18, edging out Matt Beevers of Melbourne.

The division one bowling award went to Ian Holmes whose wickets came at an average of 10.05 and helped Bishopthorpe to the title for the first time since 2005.

It is the fifth time that Holmes has won the award having secured it in 2014, 2013, 2010 and 2009.

Holmes took 35 league and cup wickets but it was not enough to claim the Les Kirby Trophy for bowling. That went to Stamford Bridge's Martin Veysey who took 44 wickets.

Veysey’s efforts went a long way to helping Bridge win the division four title and his average per wicket was just 4.82, easily the best in the league.

Bridge wicketkeeper Graham Freer secured the Harry Smith Wicketkeeping Trophy with 19 victims.

The three finalists of the Young Player of the Year award, sponsored for the first time by Gem Construction (York) Ltd, are Jack Bagshaw (Stamford Bridge), Charlie Buckley (Ovington) and Jack Heartshorne (Clifton Alliance).

At the other end of the age scale, veterans Nigel Collinson (Stockton & Hopgrove) and Will Knight (Askham Bryan) will be inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame.

The Club of the Year, Tea of the Year, and Young Player of the Year winners will be unveiled on the night.
