YORK City boss Jackie McNamara returned to take training at Wigginton Road today after missing Monday morning’s session.

McNamara gave The Press no explanation for his absence yesterday, but a Twitter message, on the GentlemanoftheRoad account, stated that he was picking up a new Audi A7 car from the Pike and Bambridge dealership in Edinburgh.

The post was also accompanied by a picture of McNamara and his new vehicle, timed at 11.31am and dated September 26, 2016.

It was subsequently deleted soon afterwards.

But Pike and Bambridge, when asked for the reasons why, replied “no comment”.

A City fan had earlier taken a screenshot of the Tweet, which read "Jackie McNamara picking up his new #Audi#A7 from @PikeBambridge #HQ today. His first new car was a #BMW #independence"

McNamara’s assistant Simon Donnelly and goalkeeper coach Craig Hinchliffe took training yesterday, amid speculation about the City chief’s future, caused by comments that he would be considering his position at Bootham Crescent following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Barrow.

With the club hovering just two points above the National League relegation zone, meanwhile, supporters took to social media sites to criticise McNamara for the picture of him picking up his new car in a Tweet that corresponded with the time City were training.

On The Press’ comments’ section, livewithit said: “So when you need the manager to sort out the team in training, where is he? Picking up a new car. Just shows the level of commitment!”

YO1, meanwhile, offered a more reasoned, if geographically-questionable view, adding: “Without wishing to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, I suspect JM regularly goes home to Scotland on a Saturday night and returns on Tuesday morning. He has a wife and three kids in Scotland.

"It makes sense to go home straight after the game. He was also in Barrow, which is in Scotland anyway.”
