MATTHEW Waite took an excellent 3-48 in his first List A appearance of the season as Yorkshire restricted Surrey to 255-7 in today's Royal London Cup semi-final at Headingley.
Waite dropped Steven Davies on 43 off his own bowling as the left-handed opener went on to make 104, his second Headingley century this summer after 117 in the County Championship match at the venue.
Davies helped Surrey recover from 8-2, including Kumar Sangakkara caught at cover off Tim Bresnan.
His fourth-wicket stand of 130 in 25 overs with Ben Foakes was key to a revival, with Foakes making a career-best 90.
But it could have been far better for Surrey, who were 191-3 in the 39th over and well placed before Waite returned to get Davies caught at deep backward square-leg with a full toss and Sam Curran bowled trying to scoop.
Bresnan finished with two wickets for the Vikings, who are well placed to reach next month's Lord's final at the halfway stage.
