ALAN King, who sent out Smad Place to gain a runaway victory in Saturday's Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury, goes in search of a much smaller success today on the Flat at Wolverhampton's all-weather meeting.

Best known, of course, as a trainer of high-class jumpers – Smad Place put himself in the Cheltenham Gold Cup reckoning with his 12-lengths win in the Hennessy – King also handles a small team of Flat horses and in CAHILL, he has a horse capable of paying his way.

The three-year-old notched a win at Wolverhampton a month ago and he's back again to bid for the 32Red Casino Handicap with Fergus Sweeney in the saddle.

On the face of it, it looks a tall order for Cahill to win, given that he's been raised a hefty 12lb by the handicapper. That is, until you look back at the authority he showed when winning on his latest start. With apprentice Georgia Cox on board, he crossed the line with no less than 19 lengths to spare.

Cahill has had only three outings on an artificial surface. The first two, both losing efforts, were at Kempton. The latest, which hosted his runaway victory, was his first visit to Wolverhampton's Tapeta circuit. It is to be hoped the Dunstall Park track brings out the best in him again this afternoon.

Malton trainer Richard Fahey complicates matters in the 32Red.com Nursery Handicap by saddling two runners.

Punters are more likely to be drawn to Bahamian Sunshine, winner of his last two races in selling and claiming class and now into handicap company for the first time.

He clearly has leading claims – but stablemate JEANIE'S PLACE may prove his superior. A Thirsk winner earlier in the season, she returned from a lengthy absence to finish a close-up fifth on her all-weather debut on this course a couple of weeks ago.

That race was over five furlongs and this step up to six may well suit Jeanie's Place even better. She is napped to oblige in the hands of Barry McHugh, who rode a 25-1 winner for Fahey on this course over the weekend.

LADY McGUFFY is fancied to come up trumps in the 32RedSport.com Selling Stakes.

Michael Dods' filly, a Redcar winner on her penultimate start, finished a creditable third at Southwell on her all-weather debut last week and is worth another chance on this quicker surface. Tom Eaves takes the mount.

Norton-based Eaves also has a winning chance on GLORIOUS ASSET in the Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes. The three-year-old showed promise in a couple of juvenile outings for Ed Walker.

Now with Ivan Furtado and returning from almost a year off, his fitness has to be taken on trust on his comeback outing.

Also worth noting are BAHAMIAN C (2.10), another from the Fahey yard who ran a respectable race here last month to finish third, and PENSAX BOY (4.40), the mount of Robert Winston and a horse long overdue a winning turn.

Over the sticks at Southwell, Caroline Bailey has good prospects of completing a double with Global Domination and CROSSPARK.

The latter won on this course last month on his rules debut and when looking green. It was only a slender success but this point-to-point winner has the scope to improve markedly and he is fancied to defy a penalty in the Arc Supporting The 2015 ROA Awards Novice Hurdle.

GLOBAL DOMINATION lines up in the opening attheraces.com Handicap Chase. The seven-year-old showed promise when finishing second on his fencing bow at Huntingdon last month and is selected to go one better.

ALL SET TO GO can be a winner for Paul Nicholls and Sam Twiston-Davies in the Arc Supporting The 2015 Lesters Maiden Hurdle.

A 100-rated Flat horse, the four-year-old showed ability on his only outing over hurdles at Kempton last season. A race of this nature should be within his compass.

MONDO CANE (12.45), who should have benefited from his comeback outing here a couple of weeks ago, and Malcolm Jefferson's COOZAN GEORGE (2.50), into handicap company for the first time, are also worthy of attention on the seven-race card.
