THE Press York City Knights Player of the Year award has for the first time ever been shared.

The 2015 accolade has been won by Greg Minikin and Ed Smith, after the latter joined his mate at the top of the leaderboard thanks to winning the September Player of the Month vote.

Their gongs were presented at the club's awards ceremony in the plush surroundings of the Royal York Hotel last night.

It completed a notable double for 20-year-old Minikin - making up for the controversy of missing out on the League One Young Player of the Year crown - as he also picked up arguably the most prized accolade of the night, given it is voted for by his peers, the Players' Player of the Year title.

The other big winners on the night were Jonny Presley, who was named Player of the Year as voted for by the Knights' coaching staff, and Tyler Craig, who picked up the Moment of the Year gong for his try in the Challenge Cup tie against St Helens.

Minikin had been three points ahead of Smith in The Press standings prior to the last game of the season, the play-off semi-final at Swinton, and ahead of the last Player of the Month accolade of term.

But the three points for being voted the best performer throughout September took Smith to joint-top.

It was also Smith's third Player of the Month accolade of the year, thus capping the 22-year-old's best season yet.

The points winners against Swinton, meanwhile, were man of the match Mark Applegarth (3pts), who jumped to fourth in the final table, Jack Aldous (2pts), who hands over his title, and Presley (1pt), who rose to fifth.

Josh Tonks finished clear in third place in the Press standings.

The Press Player of the Year award is decided by player ratings from each match throughout the season. Our top three players in each fixture get one, two and three points respectively for their tally, and each respective Press Player of the Month gets three bonus points.

The seven Player of the Month winners from March to September, respectively, were Smith, Tonks, Minikin, Jordan Howden, Smith, Presley and, completing his hat-trick, Smith.
