FOUR games, four wins and York Cricket Club will be crowned Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League champions - but skipper Nick Kay isn't looking past Appleby Frodingham tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers' tenth straight victory, against Hull last time out, took them to the top of the table for the first time and they now hold a narrow two point advantage over long-time leaders Barnsley.

The visit of Appleby to Shipton Road is followed by the arrival of Castleford on Bank Holiday Monday and, with games against Harrogate and Sheffield Collegiate to come, it could be tempting for York to look ahead to the winning line.

But Kay, a feature of a side which once won seven league titles on the spin, is far too experienced to be caught in idle imagination.

And he is determined to make sure some of his younger players don't fall into the trap.

"Six or seven of us have been in this position over the last few years and it is important to keep the young lads on the ground," he said. "We can't take eight points tomorrow for granted or anything on Monday for granted.

"We have done that two or three times this season and it has come back to haunt us. This is the business end of the season and we have to have the right attitude when we turn up.

"We have to be composed at all times. If we are able to do that I am confident that we have got a team that is capable of winning games of cricket. We have all got to be the same.

"I have never taken any game for granted as long as I have played for York. I will make sure the lads will be the same. If we think we have got it won then that is a recipe for disaster."

Kay could easily point to Appleby Frodingham's two victories over Barnsley this season to illustrate the threat they pose and he added: "You can see how dangerous they are on their day.

"They are beating the top teams and have bonded well as a unit. With Castleford, if you look at their position in the league table it seems to be a false one. It is about a bit of consistency and they have bad days.

"We want to make sure they have bad days at Clifton Park over the weekend. The first 15 overs of both matches will set the tone. We have to make sure we are ready to go for both games."

And on the prospect of playing both matches at home, he said: "From our point of view, home advantage is important but, of the four games we have lost this season, three have been at home.

"It has not been the fortress we would have liked it to be this year but, over the last 12 games, we have won many of them quite comfortably and at home. It takes a bit of time for new players to bed in, to get used to the boundaries and where they need to bowl.

"It should count for a lot but we are taking nothing for granted. We can't look too far ahead."

Bowler Charlie Elliot is missing for York this weekend with Chris Booth coming back into the line-up. Oli Leedham will also come into the side and take the new ball with Kieron Bloor dropping out.
