EAST YORKSHIRE tennis ace Kyle Edmund has crashed out of Wimbledon.
The Beverley-based 20-year-old lost in straight sets to Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov on court three at SW19.
Edmund hit the headlines when edging out Stephane Robert of France in five sets to record his first-ever Grand Slam victory at the French Open last month.
He subsequently had to pull out of the tournament with an abdominal injury. But the success led some to label him as a potential successor to former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, who has become a mentor to the young Yorkshireman.
Hopes of a repeat of the French triumph for Edmund, ranked at 101st in the world, were quickly dashed. After losing the first set 7-6 (7-4 in the tie-break) to Dolgopolov, he quickly succumbed 6-1 and 6-2 to bow out at the first hurdle.
