NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC lifted the York & District Cup for the first time since 2009 after defeating York Lokos 28-10 in the final at Thanet Road.

Lokos took the lead with an unconverted try, but the All Blacks went ahead midway through the half when good quick ball down the line saw winger Dean Smith cross and stand-off Tom Barron converted.

The All Blacks maintained their 6-4 lead to half-time, but Lokos regained the advantage in the opening minute of the second half with a converted try.

New Earswick bounced back when a pass created space for loose forward Adam Kirby to cross, with Barron converting.

The lead was stretched when Kirby crossed for his second try, reaching out over the whitewash, with Barron again adding the extras.

The All Blacks forged further in front when half-back Liam Gargan intercepted and raced 70 metres to score.

Barron added a penalty before All Blacks sealed their victory five minutes from time with a try in the corner from winger Sam Cooper - his first score for the club.

The All Blacks man of the match was Kirby, backed up well by sub Jack Hodgson and Gargan.

Meanwhile, York Acorn ‘A’ lost 42-18 to Sharlston Rovers in the final of the Yorkshire Men’s League Forty-20 Cup at Heworth.

Sharlston forged into an early 10-0 lead thanks to tries by Gareth Davies and Luke Beacher, but Acorn were stung into action and stand-off Tom Mackley ghosted through for a superb try, which Tony Shepherd converted.

Rovers hooker Jack Kirmond then scored and converted a fantastic individual try from 40 metres out.

On the stroke of half-time, full-back Nath Smith created some space for Josh Beacher to cross in the corner. Smith kicked a fantastic touchline conversion to make it 22-6 at half-time.

At the start of the second half, Rovers scored two quick tries from Joe Childs and Adam Gant, with Smith kicking both goals.

Acorn showed tremendous spirit in the remaining 30 minutes, despite losing key players Shepherd and James Cooper to injury.

Adam Sellars crossed for a try for Acorn and Mackley kicked a touchline conversion. Davies then crossed for his second for Rovers before captain Chris Bingham got a well deserved try.

Acorn had the final word when Reece Rushworth scored from a well worked move, Mackley tagging on the extras.
