NORTH Yorkshire-based David O’Meara, who saddled two winners at Doncaster’s opening meeting and came close to lifting the Lincoln Handicap with runner-up Mondialiste, can carry on his good work at Southwell this afternoon.

The Nawton trainer, whose Sunday winner at Doncaster, Hail The Hero, is now destined to tackle the Craven Stakes at Newmarket with a view to lining up in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, is napped to score with Makin A Statement in the Unibet Maiden Stakes over six furlongs.

Previously with John Quinn and a close-up third on the second of his two juvenile starts at Newcastle in April, Makin A Statement was off for the remainder of the season until returning with a subdued effort at Catterick in October.

He remains a promising horse and this looks a suitable first target for his comeback. He is fancied to take all the beating under Danny Tudhope.

O’Meara and Tudhope have another good chance with Toto Skyllachy in the opening Coral App Download From The App Store Handicap, but this veteran performer may have to play a supporting role behind Sellingallthetime, trained by Michael Appleby.

The four-year-old has finished runner-up on both his outings on this course since the turn of the year and although the form is nothing to get carried away with, he is fancied to have enough ability to win this ordinary event.

Scott Dixon has two good chances in the Daily Enhanced ‘Magic Multiples’ At Unibet Handicap and Coiste Bodhar, a recent winner, is narrowly preferred over his stable-mate, the consistent Spowarticus.

The mount of Luke Morris, Coiste Bodhar has been raised 4lb for his latest course victory, He should be competitive once more off his revised mark.

The 32Red Handicap offers Conserve the chance to fulfil the promise of his recent Wolverhampton success.

Neil King’s charge won by almost four lengths at Dunstall Park. If he can reproduce that effort on this slower surface, he should make a determined bid to defy a 6lb penalty.

Also worth noting on the Fibresand course are Bryan Smart’s recent course winner Playtothewhistle (4.30) and the Neville Bycroft-trained Eium Mac (5.05), who returns from a short break to a course where he won earlier in the year.

At Huntingdon, Mondo Cane aims to supplement his recent Southwell success in the 32Red on The App Store Handicap Chase.

Adam Pogson rode a daring waiting race on the gelding on his latest start, producing him to lead late in the day after Mondo Cane had travelled supremely well throughout.

He is a horse who does not appreciate being in front too long, so Pogson will be seeking to give him a similar ride this afternoon.

It could be a white-knuckle ride for punters, wondering if the gelding will go about his business once he’s asked a question.

He’s capable of winning, but certainly not one on which to risk the housekeeping.

Anyone who witnessed Tony McCoy win on Un Ace at Ascot on Sunday will have been given a timely reminder of what we are going to mourn when he retires in a matter of weeks.

The 19-time champion pulled the race out of the fire on the gelding when looking booked for second place.

How often have we seen him do that in his remarkable career?

McCoy should figure among the winners at Huntingdon. He rides the promising Southfield Royale in the opening ShoreClean Ventilation Ductwork Novices’ Hurdle and Neil Mulholland’s dual-bumper winner should relish this better ground after flopping under heavy conditions at Exeter on his latest start.

Flash Crash (2.45) and One Little Bit Dusty (3.50) are two run-of-the-mill seasoned campaigners, who win in their turn. With McCoy on board the pair, this could be their day to shine.

Southwell today: 2.20 Sellingallthetime, 2.55 Makin A Statement (NAP), 3.25 Coiste Bodhar, 4.00 Conserve, 4.30 Playtothewhistle, 5.05 Eium Mac.

Huntingdon today: 2.10 Southfield Royale, 2.45 Flash Crash, 3.15 Ballyvoneen, 3.50 A Little Bit Dusty, 4.20 Mondo Cane, 4.55 Perfect Summer.
