YORK Acorn ARLC ‘A’ will face Sharlston Rovers in the final of the Yorkshire League Forty-20 Cup after a 38-20 win over Brighouse Rangers in the last four.

Full-back Jake Calam bagged a first-half hat-trick as the Blue and Golds booked their final spot, while Rovers were 24-0 winners at home to Skirlaugh Bulls ‘A’.

Acorn registered the first points of the match after only two minutes.

Adam Sellars offloaded to Calam and he weaved in and out of the defence to charge 80 metres for the score.

Tony Shepherd added the conversion.

Brighouse responded with a try on ten minutes but Acorn scrum- half Shepherd then kicked deep on the second tackle and Johnny Waldron won the race to gather and score a try converted by Shepherd.

On 26 minutes, Joe Porter broke the line and Calam arrived in support for another touch down, converted by Shepherd.

Adam Sellars then scored before Calam skipped through the defence to race 50 metres for his third try, again goaled by Shepherd.

Brighouse scooted over for a converted try to make it 28-10 at the break and they scored first in the second period.

However, Richard Scott and Daryl North made good yards before Thomas Mackley found a gap and went over the line and Shepherd added the extras.

With ten minutes left Karl Harton shrugged off a posses of would-be tacklers on a strong 30-metre run to the line.

Brighouse had the final word with a converted try.

The man of the match accolade went to Joe Porter for his hard work in defence and attack.
