SIMON DYSON surged to his best round in 2015 to get his Joburg Open campaign off to a flier.

The York-born golfer was in inspired form to post an impressive six-under-par 65 to be tied eighth going into today’s second round of the European Tour event.

Dyson, whose 2015 programme has brought three missed midway cuts and two middling finishes, was almost instantly into the groove at the west course of the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.

He struck the first of no fewer than eight birdies on the second hole, though that rapid improvement was marred by a dropped shot on the third.

But that proved a rare blip. From holes five to nine, the 37-year-old totalled four birdies as he took command.

The inward nine started dismally with a bogey on the par-four tenth.

However, the world number 148 did not that setback disrupt his flow. He improved his round further with three successive birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes for his 65 - his lowest round this year by a country mile.

That put him in a eight-way tie for eighth place and a mere four shots off the clubhouse lead which was held by South Africa’s Nic Henning.
