DOUGHTY Dunnington countered from 2-0 down to inflict the first York Minster Engineering Football League premier division defeat of the season on Tadcaster Magnets.

And Magnet’s 3-2 reverse also ensured that last season’s champions Old Malton St Mary’s are the lone unbeaten side in the top tier.

Joshua Hutchinson’s late winner handed the initiative in the title race back to Malton who remain four points clear of Dunnington in second place, with a game in hand on their rivals.

It had appeared to be business as usual for Magnets as goals from Sam Harrison and Philip Smith propelled them into a two-goal lead. However, Dunnington proved to be their sternest test yet and replies from Callum Richardson and Tom Richards restored parity before Hutchinson blasted home the winner with ten minutes remaining.

Steve Baxter hit a hat-trick for Old Malton as they despatched Church Fenton White Horse 5-1.

Damian Cox and substitute Tom Fenwick struck Malton’s other goals.

Jon Marshall’s sweet free-kick brought Church Fenton back to make it 2-1 at half-time, but Malton dominated the second half, adding three without reply.

Riccall United moved up to third after a deserved 3-1 victory at Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Chris Coxon latched on to a stray back pass to give the visitors the lead after 15 minutes shortly before Gary Collier tapped home when a bobble took the ball out of the possession of Wigginton keeper Michael Clancy.

The keeper then made several excellent stops preventing his side from falling further behind before Josh Luckhurst slid Jamie Willstrop through to slot home and make it 2-1.

Collier’s second strike 15 minutes from time effectively ended the contest.

Huntington climbed to fifth after a 2-1 win at Copmanthorpe.

Paul King scored in the first half to give Rovers the lead before Chris Dyson rounded the keeper on the hour mark.

Mark Featherstone reduced the deficit with 20 minutes to go but Huntington hung on to take the points.

A 17-minute hat-trick from Sam Thompson towards the end of the first half gave Osbaldwick a 3-0 victory at home to Harrison Signs.

Terrington Glory gained a welcome 5-1 success over Poppleton United. Josh Ward put Terrington ahead before half-time and then Alex Yates, Johnny Brown, Matty Bower and Chris Rhodes struck before a late consolation.

In division one, F1 Racing returned to winning ways with an emphatic performance at second-placed Malton and Norton.

The visitors were 2-0 up within ten minutes through a Chris Dempsey brace, and Jericho Keys extended their lead on the stroke of half-time. Jon Giordano widened the gap in the second period before Simon Reeves hit a late retort for the Ryedale side.

Hamilton Panthers suffered another mauling at Heslington who emerged with an 11-2 success.

Lee Topping, John Pipe, Alex Sutherland (2), Dan Hood (3), Stuart Dickenson, Gareth Hurst, Rob Hayden and Johnny Hall found the target for Heslington.

Sam Richards (2), Stuart Lawson and Tom Reay struck gold for Pocklington Town as they gained a 4-0 triumph over Cliffe.

In division two, Strensall moved to within two points of leaders Rawcliffe after a 6-3 defeat of Ouseburn United. The Strensall hitmen were Johnny Cooper (2), Charlie Coupland (2), Jack Bell and Joe Davison.

Jay Heffernan gave Fulford a half-time lead at Wilberfoss before Charlie Dodds replied for the hosts. But Dom Harris fired home to ensure that the points went the way of Fulford.
