COUNTY Challenge Cup quarter-finalists Sporting Knavesmire were denied a place in the York FA Saturday Junior Cup semi-finals by Helperby United’s nerves of steel.
The Sporting ranks were quickly 2-0 up through Andy Simpson and James Windle against Helperby.
But Helperby heaved themselves back level to 2-2 and force a penalty-shoot out.
Their composure held as they won the shoot-out 4-2 and edged past Knavesmire into the last four.
In the clash of the reserve sides, Dunnington eliminated Huntington courtesy of a 3-0 home win with goals from Samson Wildwood (penalty), Ben Small and a 20-yard Andy Rose volley.
The other quarter-final tie to be completed, saw Thorpe United triumph 3-0 at Haxby United.
