TOP flight title contenders Hounds moved into the quarter-finals of the York Sunday Morning Football League Cup with a 3-1 win over Snaith.

Chris Jackson, Richard Gladwell and Gavin Clamp were on target for the victors.

Marcia Grey were made to work for their place in the next round as they beat York Phoenix 5-2.

The underdogs went 2-0 up after half an hour through Roger Lorains, but Leigh Dutton reduced the deficit shortly after.

John McGhee smashed in an equaliser after a corner was parried and 16 year-old Ryan Day fired the visitors into the lead before Dutton rounded the keeper.

Wigginton Grasshoppers beat Hemingbrough United 8-3 - but did not have everything their own way.

Thomas Collins bagged an early brace for United before Steve Jarvis slotted home for Wiggy to make it 2-1 just before the interval.

Jordan Holt’s sweetly-struck left-foot volley levelled and Michael Clancy’s deft chip made it 3-2.

Neale Holmes handled in the box and Hemingbrough’s Derry Robson made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-3.

However, Clancy scored four more goals and then set up Terry Taylor for Wigginton’s eighth.

Division two leaders York Nomads took another step towards promotion with an 8-3 success over Brayton.

Nathan Bradley and Chris Bilton picked up two goals apiece, with Sam Thompson, Tom Wheatland and Aaron Kirby also on the scoresheet to add to an own goal.

In division three, Selby Olympia made the most of their trip to Wentworth, leaving with a 7-0 victory.

Janos Takac picked up a hat-trick and Dave Whisker a brace. Kirk Swann and Elliott Clark completed the rout.

Cliffe won 5-2 at Marcia Bishopthorpe with goals from Tom Ellwood (2), Keiran Dinsdale, Jackson Lucitt and Kevin Taylor.
