YORK City boss Russ Wilcox still has "two or three irons in the fire" as this afternoon's 5pm deadline for 2014 loan signings approaches.

The Minstermen chief is still in pursuit of another attacking player following the return of Diego De Girolamo from Sheffield United with a target man the main priority.

On the possibility of an arrival this afternoon, Wilcox said: "I thought we had one player tied up yesterday but that situation changed. We are still looking to add another forward or wide player and I have got two or three irons in the fire.

"We are looking at bringing one player in, so we've got to see which one will be let out but, if we don't get anybody else in, then having Diego back to add to what we've got up top is a big positive and I am happy with the cover we have got everywhere else in the squad."

Wilcox would also be open to loan requests for out-of-favour players at Bootham Crescent but added that, as yet, there had been no interest forthcoming.

"If there was an inquiry for certain players who are not getting games or coming back from injury, I would give it serious consideration because they need to get some football," he admitted.
