PAUL MARSHALL admits he is walking a tightrope keeping his squad happy as his Tadcaster Albion team sweep all before them in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

The Brewers boss has the best type of problem as he prepares his outfit for tomorrow’s derby day battle against Garforth Town at Ings Lane - too many players and not enough places.

“There are lads who can’t even get into the squad,” said Marshall of his team, who are three points clear at the top of the table.

“It is difficult. I am trying to arrange more games so we can keep them competitive and we have got Liversedge coming up in the league and the league cup in early November.

“We’ve got them on the Saturday so we will get players games against them in the league cup and also in the county cup.

“Obviously, we will get them minutes on the field in league games as well.

“There will be players who will get fed up and have to move on to pastures new. But everyone is being very professional at the moment and are getting on with it.

“A winning club always helps. Players can’t just knock on the door when you are winning nearly every game. I will have to try to manage it.”

Marshall is enthused about a “proper derby” between two clubs situated just ten miles apart.

While Andy Milne may need another week of rest, he is likely to have a decision to make between two goalkeepers.

Tom Morgan, who suffered a broken nose against Pickering, could be back to fitness but Peter Lawrie saved a crucial penalty last week as Albion secured a 1-0 win at Athersley Recreation.

Marshall added: “A lot of guys have played at Garforth and there are a lot of Leeds lads in the area. We regard this as our derby and there will be a big crowd, as there always is. We are attracting more and more support.

“Peter Lawrie has stepped in and done very well.

“I think Tom Morgan will be fit this week so I will have to make a decision as to who will play. Peter has done so well that it is a tough one.”

“Consistently inconsistent”, that’s how Selby Town manager Dave Ricardo assessed his team’s form ahead of their trip to Teversal in NCEL division one.

The Robins served up a horror show at basement club Hallam last week, going down 4-1, before rousing themselves to deliver a knockout punch to high-flying Clipstone Town in a midweek 2-1 victory.

Ricardo, who altered his squad for that win, will be without both scorers in that match - with Matty Start and Ryan Robinson missing but the Selby chief will welcome back Richard Metcalfe and is hoping to secure the signing of striker Liam Wilkin from Retford.

Nathan Kamara starts the first of a four-game ban for his red card against Worsbrough Bridge but the midfielder is about to go under the knife for an operation which will sideline him until the first week of December.

Ricardo said: “It was a poor performance against Hallam - there were individual and collective errors - and we had a poor attitude.

“We were always fighting a losing battle but still had enough chances to win.

“We were disappointed because some of the experienced players didn’t put their best foot forward and it was vital to get a win (against Clipstone).

“Teversal have got a good recent run going and, as we have proved this week, it doesn’t matter who you face. It depends on how you turn up.”

Knaresborough Town host AFC Mansfield in NCEL division one, while Harrogate Town are hunting their first win in five games at home to Brackley in Conference North.

Harrogate Railway play host to Droylsden, while Scarborough Athletic travel to New Mills respectively in Evo-Stik League first division north.
