NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC return to Pennine League action on Saturday eager to maintain winning form - but facing another step into the unknown.

Jack Stearman's men go to Illingworth, who last week bounced back from an opening defeat to turn over Bentley Good Companions, who had edged the All Blacks in their opener.

Player-boss Stearman admits knowing little about the hosts' current set-up but has reiterated that All Blacks' focus remains on getting their own performance right as they try to follow up their victory over Hull Wyke in the BARLA Yorkshire Cup last Saturday.

"Every game is the same at the moment - it's about how we play," he said.

"It's hard to find out about these teams at least until you've played them so for us it's about improving our performance every week.

"We're trying to find our feet in the division and push forward as a team."

Stearman will be without Jack Sinclair, Jojo Hnesh and Tom Hields, who are all unavailable, as well as the crocked Joe Hemmings. Sinclair, who missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, scored a try last week from centre as he continued an impressive return to the team.

However, big prop Nic Caldwell is back to offer more size and knowhow in the pack, while Stearman was impressed by second-row Joe Smith after his first-ever competitive rugby league outing last week.

"We tried a few new lads last week in certain positions. Joe played his first game of rugby league and we were impressed with him.

"He showed that people can step up into the team when required.

"We have a competitive squad and with a few more to come in people will be on their toes, which is good as we'll need everyone over the season."

Selby Warriors will be looking for their first win of the Pennine League division four campaign after a 30-6 reverse against Crofton Cougars and an 18-18 draw with Wortley Dragons.

The Warriors host Dearne Valley Bulldogs on Saturday.

There is no game for Sherburn Bears, who were 20-12 winners in their opening match against Emley Moor last weekend.

20-12.

The Bears were boosted by impressive debuts from prop forward Chris Box, hooker Connor Jordan, returning prop Scotty Towel and play-maker Jamie Baxter.

Sherburn's next league outing is at Wortley Dragons a week on Saturday.
