BRITANNIA Tadcaster caused the upset of the round in the York Sunday Morning League Senior Challenge Trophy with a 5-3 defeat of top-flight Albion Vaults.

Despite two goals from Chris Harkin and one from George Wojkk, Vaults were overpowered by the up and coming Tadcaster side who held out for a deserved win.

Wigginton Grasshoppers found themselves in shock after falling two goals behind within three minutes at Bishopthorpe United.

Jamie Wilstrop pulled one back for the visitors before a stunning volley restored Bishopthorpe’s two-goal cushion.

In the second half, Grasshoppers regained their composure and took control. Jamie Green headed home to make it 3-2 before Michael Clancy levelled from the penalty spot. Wigginton’s long serving talisman Tom Coates then prodded home ‘Hoppers fourth before Wllstrop hit his second to put the result beyond doubt.

Clancy’s second made it six before Green outpaced the Bish back line twice late on to secure a hat-trick and an 8-3 win for Wigginton.

Dunnington posted a convincing win at Bubwith White Swan. Mike Noble and Jimmy Wilmoth both bagged braces, with Rob Hart and Harry Lynn completing the scoring.

Thorpe took the lead at Brayton when Shaun Gandy managed to get on the end of a Jamieson free-kick following confusion in the box. James Newnham then doubled their lead with a well-executed penalty in the second period before Brayton pulled a late goal back.

Gaz Harton (2) and Will Plews were on target as Haxby won 3-2 at Ethel Ward Fields, while York Nomads were defeated 5-0 by division one Hounds.

Snaith won 4-0 at York Wanderers with Coult (2), Hunt and Baggaley finding the net.

Goals from Adam Drakin, Dan Smith and Richard Matthews were not enough to keep Hambleton in the cup, with Leeman United emerging 5-3 winners.
