GARY THORNTON has admitted his surprise that Oldham not Hunslet will be coming to Huntington Stadium on Sunday - but he has warned his York City Knights side they will face a team in form.

The Roughyeds won 25-24 at South Leeds Stadium in the opening game of the Championship One promotion play-off series on Friday night to earn the right to meet the Knights in this weekend's qualifying semi-final, the winners of which go straight through to the Grand Final.

Hunslet had been favourites but instead go into an elimination semi-final against Gateshead.

Said Thornton, who was at the game: "It epitomised what play-off football is all about. Hunslet were seemingly in control for most of the first half but they lost control and Oldham got the upper hand.

"Oldham will be confident on Sunday as well. They're in form and they've earned the right to play us.

"We're confident, though. There's a reason we finished as champions and that's because we're the best team in the competition."

Admission to Sunday's match, which will be the last-ever at Huntington Stadium if York win, costs £15, or £12 for concessions or £6 for under-16s.

Admission is not covered on season tickets or vice-president packages as it is a play-off game. Some hospitality is available - phone Jack Stearman on 01904 767404 for details.
