THE WOW SIGNAL is in the frame to land horseracing's equivalent of an Oscar.

The two-year-old, trained at Norton by John Quinn, stormed to Group 1 glory when taking the prestigious Prix Morny at Deauville, in France, last Sunday.

That victory catapulted him to the top of the rankings in the two-year-old colt category at the Cartier Awards. The juvenile is currently tied on 48 points with the Richard Hannon-trained Kool Kompany.

The Cartier Racing Awards honour the champions of European horseracing and will be announced before an invited audience of 300 on Tuesday, November 11.

The winners earn points through their performances in Pattern races through the season with the opinions of racing journalists and votes from newspaper readers and Channel 4 Racing viewers also taken into account in deciding the overall winner.

The Wow Signal, who won the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, gave Quinn his first Group 1 winner on the Flat at the weekend and was ridden by Frankie Dettori, the retaining rider for Al Shaqab Racing.

Quinn considers he may have an opportunity to be a Classic horse next year and he is quoted by bookmakers at 12-1 for the 2015 Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
