THE head teacher at a York secondary Scool used the annual prize-giving to praise the outstanding work done there over the past year.

Brian Crosby paid tribute to the hard work and determination of staff and pupils alike, in front of an audience of 500 at Manor School.

Mr Crosby said afterwards: "The night was all about celebrating the hard work and achievements of the school in the last 12 months, in particular the school's glowing Ofsted report and the work of former Year 11 pupils, who had record-breaking performances in their GCSEs."

In October, the Evening Press reported that Manor School was to benefit from £13.5 million as part of a shake-up of secondary education in the south of York.

The Bishop of Selby, the Right Rev Martin Wallace, was on hand to give out prizes and certificates. He spoke to youngsters and parents about the importance of team work.
