STREET cleaning maps which show where City of York Council plan to change the frequency of services are now available online.

For each neighbourhood in the city, the council has published “before and after” versions of the maps, which show which streets are cleaned on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis - either by hand or with a mechanical road sweeper.

They are available online at https://www.york.gov.uk/wardstreetcleaning

Paper copies are available on request at the council’s West Offices HQ.

The maps show where the council plans to change its regular street cleaning routes - meaning some streets will only be cleaned four times a year instead of 12; although some smaller streets which were not cleaned at all will gain a quarterly clean.

York Press:

Labour councillors had accused the council administration of secrecy because full information was not available.

Environment boss Cllr Andrew Waller hit back, saying the previous Labour cabinet had agreed in 2014 to cut £750,000 from “place based services”, including cleaning, but with no detail on how that would be done.
