A SHOP that was devastated by the Boxing Day floods has reopened.

Simply A Party in Bridge Street, Tadcaster, reopened last week, seven months to the day after floodwater rose to chest height in the store.

Owner Lisa Stubbs had to prepare the shop for reopening while also dealing with the birth of baby Zakk, who was born just days after the floods, and said she had received a lot of support from the area.

Lisa said: "I am so grateful for everyone who has helped through such a difficult process, I just want to say a huge thank you to everybody and especially to all my friends and family who have made the reopening possible."

Nigel Adams, MP for Selby and Ainsty, visited the shop on its reopening, and heard how all the stock had to be thrown away and the shop had to be entirely gutted following the floods.

He said: "It was a pleasure to meet Lisa and hear about all the hard work that went into getting the shop ready to open again. It was a tragedy when they were flooded, after having been open for just a few weeks, but they have fought back. It is wonderful to see lots of positive attitude. A party shop could not be a more appropriate venture.

"It is a pleasure to see shops like Simply A Party reopening after the disastrous floods last year. Good progress is being made by North Yorkshire County Council with the repair of the bridge. I will continue to do as much as I can to help businesses in Tadcaster get back on their feet as soon as possible. I look forward to watching this new shop become another local success story and wish them well for the future."
