YORK-based visitor attraction operator Continuum Attractions is reporting its most successful year yet as the doors open at its latest venture.

Headquartered in Margaret Street, Continuum has just opened the doors to its £9 million visitor experience The Royal Mint, near Cardiff, where guests can go behind the scenes at the world’s leading export mint to follow the journey of a coin.

Winning the contract to operate the new attraction, which created 30 jobs, has come in a record year for Continuum as the firm delivers double digit growth to the bottom line while investing in and adding to its nationwide portfolio of attractions.

In its 31 year history the business has worked with more than 100 attractions stretching from Portsmouth to Edinburgh, with its current seven strong portfolio including York's Chocolate Story, Oxford Castle Unlocked, The Canterbury Tales and the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

Continuum says it is now on track to double its portfolio in the next five years, with its most commercially successful attraction to date, Coronation Street The Tour, providing a platform for significant growth and allowed reinvestment in the portfolio.

The company says its working relationship with ITV also promises "exciting new ventures in the near future".

Juliana Delaney, chief executive of Continuum Attractions said: "We are thrilled to run the new Royal Mint Experience in collaboration with one of the country’s most prestigious institutions.

"The Royal Mint’s fascinating history is renowned worldwide – now visitors from across the globe can see another side to the coins in their pocket."

The new Royal Mint team, recruited and trained by Continuum, bring the factory experience and interactive exhibition to life with a part-guided tour revealing the processes involved in producing coins. The attraction also boasts a 60 seater café serving hot and cold food and an exclusive gift shop stocked with Royal Mint coins and collectables.

The Royal Mint secured a grant of £2.3 million from The Welsh Government to carry out the work, contributing to the total £9m costs of the project.

The funding will enable The Royal Mint to safeguard 147 jobs within its commemorative coin division while also creating a number of new jobs both in the development and staffing of The Royal Mint Experience.
