IN the wake of last Sunday's sold-out screening of Vivien Leigh's Oscar-winning turn in A Streetcar Named Desire, City Screen, York will show Cate Blanchett's parallel performance in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine on Monday evening.

The 6.20pm show forms part of City Screen's association with Treasurer's House in York, where the exhibition from the Vivien Leigh Archive should be on everyone's To Do list.

"Woody Allen drew heavily on Vivien Leigh's portrayal of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire when creating Cate Blanchett's Oscar-winning character of Blue Jasmine, and City Screen is showing Allen's 2013 black comedy to compare and contrast with Elia Kazan's 1951 movie," says marketing manager Dave Taylor.

"In order to explore the characters further and compare the films, Dr Sarah Olive, a lecturer in English in Education at the University of York, will be introducing the screening of Blue Jasmine, just as she did at A Streetcar Named Desire last weekend."

Tickets for Blue Jasmine are on sale on 0871 902 5726, at picturehouses.co.uk or in person at the Coney Street box office.

Vivien Leigh: Public Faces, Private Lives will run at Treasurer's House until December 20. Organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the exhibition is open Saturday to Thursday until the end of October, then Thursday to Sunday during November and December.
