A TERMINALLY ill young woman is planning on living her life to the full after doctors gave her a devastating diagnosis.

Sonny Lang, from York Road, Tadcaster, is no stranger to heartbreaking news.

The 22-year-old was aged just 13 months when she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and told her life would be over by the time she reached 14.

But after defying doctors when a transplant prolonged her life beyond her teenage years, her lungs collapsed in November last year and a second transplant was out of the question.

Although the former Tadcaster Grammar School pupil is unsure how much time she has left, the enterprising, confident Sonny is focused on ticking off adventures on her bucket list.

She is planning a trip to Disneyland Florida in November, will visit Leeds' First Direct Arena with 12 friends to watch wrestling and is organising a charity football game at Tadcaster Albion for October 23.

All of the above have been made possible through the help of Bethany Wilson, Sonny's best friend, who set up a Go Fund Me page for donations.

She said: "I set this up to do whatever I can but if could give her the world I would.

"There's been so many generous people get in touch that haven't even met Sonny.

"We've had people from America offering her transport if she needs it on holiday and someone else offered her a photo shoot.

"There's a lot of positivity and Sonny has been overwhelmed by the well wishers."

More than £7,000 has already been pledged on Sonny’s Go Fund Me page, a feat she describes as "unbelievable".

She added: "I always knew I wasn't going to live forever so this wasn't a massive shock.

"It was heartbreaking to hear the diagnosis but straight away people made me laugh and joke about it.

"It's nice to know I can still meet up with people and keep busy organising things. I'm just focusing on going to Florida and I'm so excited about it."

The charity football game will see a team picked by Sonny take on YOLO United, a team of former reality TV stars, and will be played at the home of Tadcaster Albion.
