POLICE are investigating after a car collided with a six-year-old boy on a zebra crossing in York.

Theo Hull, six, was taken to York Hospital after the accident, which happened on Thursday morning in Burton Stone Lane while he youngster was on his way to Clifton Green Primary School with his mum, Claire Harris.

He was later discharged from hospital with bruising and swelling to a foot, said North Yorkshire Police.

A force spokeswoman said the accident involved a Red Suzuki, driven by a woman in her 40s from York. The matter was under investigation but no one had been arrested, she added.

Theo's mother Claire said she wanted to thank everyone who had stepped in to help after the accident, when she had been feeling distraught.

She said: "Obviously I was quite startled at the time and members of the public came rushing over when they saw what happened. There was a lady who rang for an ambulance and a gentleman came over with a first aid kit.

"I felt awful and realised I did not say thank you. We got in the ambulance and went straight to hospital, but I really want to say thank you to the people who stopped and helped. It was a horrible thing to happen and I was distraught."
