CARE homes in York and Selby have been named among the most recommended in Yorkshire, and among the best in the country.

Temple Manor Care Home, in Selby, was named 12th top recommended care home in the UK in research by carehome.co.uk, based on feedback from friends and family members of residents.

The awards are based on more than 45,000 recommendations received from residents, their relatives and friends during 2014. Care homes are excluded from the awards if they have not been compliant with their regulatory authority at any time from January 2014 to February 2015.

John Reader, manager at Temple Manor Care Home, said the award was due to the whole team at the facility, and he would be hosting a meeting to thank them.

He said: “Winning a carehome.co.uk award again, especially in 2015 means the world to me and my dedicated team. My staff to me are the best staff a care home could have, professional, dedicated, enthusiastic and most of all enjoy every working day at Temple Manor.

“They strive on helping residents with all aspects of daily living, promoting independence and individuality and striving to ensure that residents live their lives to the full, not just adding years to their lives, but more importantly life to their years.

“Our residents’ relatives love to visit Temple Manor as do we.

“We love that we are and have made what is a fantastic number-one rated care home in Yorkshire and the Humber.”

Second place in Yorkshire and the Humber went to Ivy Lodge care home in Haxby.

The home’s owner, Charles Helfferich, said: “We are extremely proud to have come second in Yorkshire and The Humber and first in the city of York. I believe we have achieved this by living up to our philosophy of Ivy Lodge being a place where residents feel ‘at home’ not ‘in a home’.

This is achieved partly through our programme of continuous improvements and upgrading in decoration and to the fixtures and fittings but mainly through the warm, welcoming, caring and long serving staff who do so much to make residents feel at home.

“These are the fundamental aspects to care that we aim to achieve at all times and it appears that our residents and their families feel we are succeeding.”
