A 44-year-old woman has been punched in the face after being verbally abused by a group of men in Acomb.

North Yorkshire Police said the assault happened at about 9.50pm on Wednesday on The Green, close to the junction with Danebury Drive.

A spokesman said the woman was walking towards Tostig Avenue when she was verbally abused by three men, who were sitting on a bench.

"One of the group then approached the victim and punched her face," he said. "As a result she suffered bruising to her right cheek."

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his twenties and around 5ft 8in tall with a slim build. At the time he was wearing a black and white hooded top, blue jeans and white trainers.

PC Chris Storey, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This assault has naturally left the victim feeling shaken by her experience." Anyone with information should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12140182733.
