A CYCLIST who died in a crash near Selby has been named as Julian Derek Barlow.

Mr Barlow was 49 and from Pollington, near Goole, and was cycling on the A19 at about 8.45am on Saturday, when he was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the roundabout at the junction of the M62.

He suffered serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where he later died.

His wife Wendy Barlow has paid tribute to her husband, and thanked the members of the public and emergency service workers who tried to save his life at the scene.

Mrs Barlow said: "Jules was the love of my life and I will forever miss him. His death has left a hole in my life that can never be filled. He was not just my husband, he was my best friend. Jules was a wonderful man who was genuine and caring, who was always thinking about other people.

"He had a great sense of humour and was passionate about cycling and photography. I would like to thank all of our friends and colleagues who have offered me so much comfort and kind words of support at this terrible time. I would also like to thank the members of the public and the emergency services who did so much to try and save Jules’ life at the scene. I am very grateful for their efforts."

North Yorkshire Police still want to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either Mr Barlow or the HGV prior to the collision.

Mr Barlow was riding a dark grey Specialised pedal cycle and wearing black and red cycle clothing and a black and red rucksack, and the HGV had a white cab and a white and blue trailer. Both were travelling north towards Eggborough.
