YORK music venue Fibbers is opening in its new home on Saturday night.

Fibbers has said goodbye to Stonebow House after 22 years and moved to the old Tokyo nightclub in Toft Green thanks to a £500,000 investment in the new 860 capacity venue.

The original founder and owner of Fibbers, Tim Hornsby is booking the acts from local bands to festival headliners including Stereophonics, Kaiser Chiefs, Jake Bugg and the Courteeners, to name a few.

A full programme of gigs includes global superstar DJ Jazzy Jeff on October 15, The Subways, The Word Alive, The Orb and The Ginger Wildheart Band. Comedian Dapper Laughs is also set to appear, ahead of his new television show which is to broadcast on ITV2 this autumn.

From 11pm til late, club nights take over at Fibbers, which is the new home of York St John’s official student night ‘Frat House’ on Wednesdays and York University’s official night ‘REBEL’ on Thursdays. The main and second room will host a range of dance, indie and rock n roll mash up nights.

Fibbers’ new neighbour and York’s first Bavarian bier hall, Stein Bier Keller, is also set to launch on Saturday and is open Wednesday - Saturday, from 8pm ‘til late on weekdays and from 12 noon til late on Saturdays.

Run by Jonathan Grasty, formerly of the Living Room Group, Stein Bier Keller features authentic Bavarian décor, live, interactive oompah bands, the best German and world beers, including a selection from York Brewery, all served at bench seating in ice cold steins.

Mr Hornsby said: “This move is such good news, for music lovers and for York. Given the likely demolition of the original building, our relocation not only ensures the long term survival of one of the country’s best loved names in live music, it’s created fifty new jobs, provided much needed improvements and also secures the future of live music in York. It’s also a bonus that we’ve moved next door to a brand new Bavarian bier keller."

Fibbers opens with a club night at 10.30pm on Saturday and the Bier Keller is open from 7pm. Fibbers would like to hear from anyone interested in staging an event at the venue, via email at info@fibbers.co.uk

Mr Grasty said: “I’m excited to be bringing this unique drinking and dining experience to York. It’s a fun and different option. Yes, world class beer is the star, but there’s much more to Stein Bier Keller – the authentic interior, top class drinks and refreshments, communal seating style, interactive live entertainment and great table staff will create a fun and unique shared experience for York.”
