"INTERIM plans" have been announced for patients at Bootham Park Hospital while a new mental health facility is built.
Wards at the hospital will be altered to make them more suitable and ward six and the electroconvulsive therapy suite will temporarily move to Cherry Tree House in Tang Hall.
The site of a new purpose built hospital - expected to open in three years - is due to be announced in six months.
The decision was made after inspectors said the building was not fit for purpose.
Dr Mark Hayes, the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group’s chief clinical officer, said: “I am very pleased to announce that whilst we develop a state of the art hospital for mental health patients, the CCG and its partners have agreed an interim solution that will improve the setting for the people who access services at Bootham Park Hospital.
“Quality and safety in services are priorities for the CCG and our interim plan will ensure that these will be provided at the Bootham Park Hospital site."
As reported before, it has already been agreed inpatient children and young people will move from from Lime Trees to Mill Lodge in York.
The interim plan will be formally discussed at the CCG’s Governing Body meeting on August 7.
