A CHARITY which helps people with mental health problems, and a nursery school for young children have both been praised for the service they give people in York.

York Mind and Little Rascals Organic Nursery in Elvington have both been put forward for the Community Pride Service with a Smile award.

Volunteer Holly Pollard is being the nomination for York Mind, and Holly said she has been inspired to put for organisation forward because she had seen how every employee or volunteer showed "absolute commitment, care and compassion" to people dealing with mental health problems.

Holly added that the hard work and energy of all at the organisation has inspired her, as a community fundraiser, to work even harder to bring in donations and help York Mind's work go further.

Meanwhile, grateful parents have praised Little Rascal's Organic Day Nurseries on Elvington Lane and Tadcaster Road, and put the business forward for the same awards.

The nursery's second branch opened recently on Tadcaster Road, and the business has been nominated by parents who appreciate its green credentials and emphasis on healthy eating and sustainable childcare for everyone.

One mum said the nursery's introduction of an after-school pick-up from local primaries is the reason she has been able to carry on working, while another has praised owner Vanessa Warn and said: "Nothing is too much to ask. She is always happy to help with anything and amazing at what she does."
