Teenagers’ GBH charges being kept under review

9:40am Tuesday 29th January 2013

TWO teenagers accused of carrying out an attack on a 50-year-old man in Acomb have again been remanded in custody.

Liam Wyard, 19, of no fixed address, and a 16-year-old from Acomb who cannot be named for legal reasons, will next appear before a court on April 29 when they will be expected to enter their pleas.

When they appeared before York Crown Court yesterday morning they were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent against Keith Wright on January 21.

The court heard that Mr Wright, who was attacked near the junction of Fairfax Court and Acomb Road, was in a “critical” condition at Leeds General Infirmary. Prosecutor Alan Mitcheson said the charge was being kept under review.

The Recorder of York, Judge Stephen Ashurst, set a provisional trial date of June 17 and after neither defendant applied for bail, remanded both in custody.

Wyard appeared via a video link from Hull Prison where he is being held.

The 16-year-old was brought to court and appeared in the dock. He is being held in secure juvenile accommodation.
