AN ELEVEN-year-old Selby student is making a big impression at his new school by passing a GCSE with flying colours.
Leon Ma is a Year 7 student at Barlby High School, and former student at Barlby CP School, where his talent for maths was noticed by teachers and he was entered for a GCSE at the end of Year Six.
By the time he arrived for his first day at high school, he learned he had achieved an A* grade. Tony Rawdin, headteacher at Barlby High, said: “I have never come across a student who has achieved such a high level at such a young age.
“Our head of maths provided some support whilst at primary school but his teachers and his maths tutor really need to take their share of the plaudits.”
Leon said: “I would like to thank the teachers who assisted me while I was preparing for my GCSE maths, especially Thomas Richardson.”
